The National Land and Range Judging Contest is proud to recognize Bobbie Steenbergen as the contest's 50th anniversary Honoree for 2001.

Bobbie has been a driving force in the success of the National Land and Range Judging contest for many years. She has been very active in seeking funds for the contest in her work with the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and theSirloin Club of Oklahoma. Bobbie also arranges and coordinates the noon lunch and the awards banquet for more than 1,000 FFA and 4-H contestants and their coaches. In addition she arranges for a police escort for the caravan of vehicles, acquires the trophies and awards, arranges entertainment for the banquet and most of all is an invaluable "goodwill ambassador" for the contest. Bobbie is known as both a huge supporter and a great friend to youth everywhere.

Raised in Gracemont, Oklahoma, as a youngster Bobbie worked with her mother in the family soda shop and as a young adult showed horses. After she married, Bobbie moved to the Yukon area and there her three daughters continued her agricultural interests, achieving recognition for rodeo competitions and showing pigs and horses in 4-H and FFA programs. In return, these girls have given Bobbie four great sources of joy - her grandchildren. Bobbie is still very involved in the horse business, raising and racing thoroughbreds.

Bobbie is well-known in her professional pursuits. She served as Calendar clerk for the state Senate for more than 20 years. Between Senate sessions, she worked with the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce on horse shows and other events. After her retirement from theCapitol, Bobbie went fulltime with the Chamber and is now the Director of Metropolitan Events. Her work with the Chamber covers more than 30 years, and her dedication has been the driving force behind event successes that ensured their return to Oklahoma City. In addition she serves as Secretary for the Southwest American Livestock Foundation and for the Sirloin Club of Oklahoma.
